I remember when this chain was new. Id beat the hell out of it literally grinding on my sprocket and purposely landing on my sprocket on concrete ledges. and even when the plates did start to fail, it didnt just snap, i was able to see it and it still got me home. Theres a reason the east coast based Animal BMX company known for setting the standard of modern street bmx products, chose to collab with KMC and just slap their logo on the box and offer it in all black. I love the SL version also, but it is a little more finicky and delicate to set up as your chain took has to hit those hollow pins perfectly.
KMC may not REALIZE the real grasp this chain has on the BMX world as its such a niche market. But it is one of the greatest 1/8 chains of all time.
The 510hx(which Odyssey BMX collabed and repackaged as the 'blue bird chain') was the first real hard core BMX freestyle chain you could count on. And it lead to this one, expanding on what they learned and how to improve its purpose even further.
and it took the cycling industry about 2 decades to catch up as now 'flat top chains' are all the rage in the 11/12speed world, as it holds its shape longer and resists stretching.
Hell I have had the same Animal branded version for over 5 years now. still smooth still not stretched. sure Im 40 now. But Im full circle back on a KMC K710 Kool chain...as it was originally called.
The chain is one of those things that just hits a warm spot when you see it on other peoples bikes, because its a chain that really takes care of you and and can actually take real abuse.
I have used several KMC single speed Bmx chains on my Bmx builds. They are very good quality. KMC also has a great selection of single speed Bmx chains.
I thought I would try the K1 WIDE on my track bike and was not disappointed. Very smooth ride!
